I'm now fully settled into my retirement. It's not been as difficult as I envisaged it might be. I have a routine during the week which includes going to the gym 4 or 5 times (although this week I haven't been at all having collided with a tree on my way through the woods on my bike! It was a case of the mental ambition of an eighteen year old combined with the physical prowess and reactions of a sixty-five year old.) It's nice to have the freedom to do what you like on any day, to go out for the evening without needing to worry about getting up early the next day. I think the important thing is to maintain social contacts and not become isolated. We seem to be managing this at the moment.
We spent two weeks of August in North East Spain, driving between Tarragona, Vic, Figueras and Barcelona. Gave us lots of opportunities to practise our Spanish. Spain always strikes me as such a civilised place. The centre of towns and cities in the evening are so pleasant! Full of families taking a stroll, having a drink or a meal, social interaction at its best. Contrast that with British towns and cities.
We leave for Australia next Monday. We'll be away for eight weeks - Perth, Brisbane, Cairns, Sydney - plus lots of trips around and about. This will become a regular journal and will have lots of attached photos - I promise!
