The Taj Mahal

The pictures do not do it justice. We saw it twice. Once from the rear, at sunset from across the river. Again at sunrise, when we queued with people from southern India who had come on a pilgrimage to the birthplace of Krishna at Mathura, about 40 miles from Agra. Both times it had a magical appearance. The white marble from which it is constructed gives it a translucent look and from a distance it looks as though it’s floating in the air. When you get close to it you become aware of the intricate patterns that have been inlaid into the surface of the marble. Every aspect of it as a beauty of its own. You never tire of gazing at it.
