I got out of the habit of writing the blog. I only seem to get the urge when I’m away from home!
Anyway, since I last contributed, when we went to India, we’ve had a number of short trips. In late July we went to the West Country via Shropshire and Sue’s brother Richard’s. One of the memorable moments of our visit to Richard and Alison’s was the invitation to accompany them to a dinner party at their friends’ house. There were twelve of us around the table and the conversation tended to be “rural Shropshire”. At one point there was an animated discussion of the respective merits of Agas and Rayburns ! Another memory is Richard telling me that his IPod contained 190 Grateful Dead albums and that these were the only thing he ever listened to!
After that we travelled to Devon to visit the place where we spent our honeymoon in 1969. The hotel, across the bay from Woolacombe in North Devon, had disappeared but we visited the beach in the rain and watched the surfers on the spectacular beach.
Our trip concluded with two days in Lyme Regis, a place we had never visited before. We walked on the Cob (a la The French Lieutenant’s Woman) and (inevitably) visited the nearby gardens at RHS Rosemoor and Abbotsbury.
In early August we went up to Wakefield and looked after our grandson, Thomas, for a couple of days. We’d forgotten how tiring it is keeping a toddler amused! After another garden visit – this time to RHS Risley – we travelled on to Manchester, Macclesfield and Congleton to visit, respectively, Sue’s sister Ann, our old friend Margaret and my sister Pam.
