Charleston

We've now started our journey west.  We drove 250 miles this morning.  The interstates are so easy to drive along and very fast.  We're revising our planned stops because we think we can traverse the boring part a bit quicker than we anticipated.  We're in Charleston, the state capital of West Virginia.  This is a big contrast to Charlottesville, a singularly unimpressive place in the middle of the coalfield, a kind of US Wakefield but with working pits (no Thatcher here!).  The drive here was quite picuresque though, through forested mountains.

Tomorrow we've decided we can get to Evansville, Indiana, about 370 miles away.  This will give us the opportunity to spend more time in St Louis.
