We are now staying at the Comfort Hotel on Hay Street for the third time! On Friday we drove from Albany to Hyden in the rain. On the way we saw a mob (apparently this is the correct collective noun) of kangaroos at the side of the road.
We decided when we arrived in Hyden to visit Mulka's Cave. This has a large number of aboriginal hand prints of indeterminate age but dating back probably thousands of years. It's about 18 kilometres from Hyden and, probably because of the weather, we found ourselves alone there. There's no admission kiosk or fee so it was just me and Sue in this small cave - quite eerie.
Fortunately the rain ceased long enough for us to visit wave rock. Once again, the geological explanation for this phenonomen defeats me but it is a magnificent sight - I'll post a picture of it when I get the chance.
Dinner at the hotel in the "Bush Tucker Bistro" was a novel experience. You selected your piece of meat - various steaks, lamb or chicken were on offer - and then you cooked it yourself on a barbeque! This was quite a sociable way of dining and we got chatting to a dairy farmer (called John!) and his wife from Queensland. Apparently the drought over in the east is so bad that for the last four years they have had to buy in feed for the cattle because they are unable to grow it themselves. It was a good insight into the life of an Aussie farmer and we had a good evening.
Yesterday Lynn cooked us Sunday lunch and today we're going to look at some of the shops in Perth with her and Jill. I'm hoping to pick up a few more CDs to add to the two Powderfinger albums that I bought in Fremantle. It's another beautiful sunny day.
Tomorrow we fly to Brisbane where the weather is even sunnier!
