Albany

Albany is a pleasant small (large by West Australian standards) town with a population of 28,000. It is the oldest European settlement in West Australia and was established in 1826, 3 years before Perth. It has a beautiful situation with a huge natural harbour. It is reminiscent of Cornwall because it’s surrounded by granite cliffs. We spent the day driving around the nearby coast, stopping at various features like a natural stone bridge, and finished up at Whale World, a whaling museum on the site of the last whaling station in Australia. For the first time since we’ve been in Australia the sun wasn’t shining and it kept trying to rain, but I don’t suppose anybody feels sorry for us!

We ate last night in a restaurant called Dylan’s but disappointingly it had no connection with The Man. Apparently the proprietress yearned for a son who she wanted to call Dylan but after three daughters she decided to open a restaurant instead!

By the way, I didn’t mention last time that we saw our first live wild Kangaroo on the drive down from Pemberton. It came bounding down the road towards us but obviously understood road etiquette because it stayed on the correct side and hopped past without mishap.

Hi there - thanks for the photo of the ring necked parrot; your camera and photography skills are excellent!
You're right - we don't feel sorry for you; you seem to be having a whale of a time!
We are booked to go away for part of the half term holiday(remember school holidays)to Sardinia and thoroughly looking forward to the break. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us although I think the rain fall at this time of year is relatively high.
Look after yourselves - mind the snakes!

Really like the photos, they are excellent. Look forward to seeing the real thing when you get back. Where are the photos of the snakes?? Like Sue, Chris would have been off like a shot!
Bet it was exiting seeing the kangaroo.
Did you manage all 40 wines or were you on the abbreviated (or is it inebriated) version?

Hello you pommies, good to hear you are enjoying yourselves. Have you recovered from your wine tasting yet. Beware of all spiders as well as the snakes.
Wednesday have lost today, Terry says sorry. Carry on having a good time.

Love Pam and Terry
