From Margaret River to Albany

After two nights at Margaret River we drove south to Pemberton. On the way we visited Cape Leeuwin (in our pursuit of extreme geographical points – this is the most south westerly in Australia) and went up the lighthouse (the tallest on mainland Australia and a tribute to 19th Century British engineering). In Pemberton we stayed at Forest Lodge Resort. We were able to watch (take notice of this Evelyn) the ring-necked parrots and crimson rosellas feeding outside our chalet.

On the trip from Pemberton to Albany we visited the Valley of the Giants (huge tingle trees only found in this corner of Australia) and took the Tree Top Walk, a 600 metre walkway that rises to 40 metres above the forest floor. Later we called at a place called Denmark and set off on a 3 kilometre walk, but 100 metres into it Sue saw two snakes (she says they were quite big and I walk around with my eyes shut) and walked immediately back to the car!

We now have two nights in Albany, after which we head back north to Hyden.

Hi you two. Just caught up with your safari, having returned from Jacqui's yesterday. She had cledarly burned the candle at both ends in NY but said she found it an enlightening experience - some amazing schools and some that should have been shut down immediately! Glad you're having such a good time. Keep posting the blogs, so i can live vicariously. I'm off to France for 4 days next week - not quite the same as Oz, but at least it's away. Sally
