On the whole, I'd rather be in Philadelphia

Well, it's 9.30 am here in Philadelphia and it's bucketing down with rain, despite it being Sue's birthday!  By the way Ruth, Sue thanks you for the birthday message despite it waking us up at 2.15 am.  We're hoping the rain is going to stop soon so that we can go out to look around the city, especially since the storm has knocked out all the TV channels!

We had a pleasant day yesterday.  A leisurely drive down to Cape May, the most southerly point in New Jersey, past lots of handsome timber frame houses.  At the southern point there's a lighthouse and the remnants of a WW2 gun emplacement (unused I suspect).  There was also a little wildlife museum with examples of lizards and snakes from the local area.

We then drove to Philadelphia.  The car has a built in sat nav so it's easy to find the next hotel.  However, it took us through the centre of the city and we found ourselves going around in circles for a while as a result of not being quick enough to follow the directions.  We're staying at a Great Western in the north west of the city.

The rain started last night just as we went out for a walk looking for a restaurant.  This was despite Sue warning me that heavy rain was forecast.  Anyway, it resulted in a first for us because when the torrential downpour began we were outside a Japanese restaurant and had no choice but to go in!  We had an excellent meal and will undoubtedly visit another one in the future.

It looks a bit brighter now and I think it's easing off so we're going to explore.
