We set off early this morning to drive the 350 miles to Evansville. Once again, we made very good time along the I64 as we moved from the coalmines of West Virginia to the lush pastures of Kentucky, and after a while we realised that we were travelling from Eastern Time to Central Time (minus one hour). So we had time to spare. We needed some gas so stopped off at a little place called Winchester.
We thought we'd have a look at the Bluegrass Music Museum but when we got there we discovered that it was open only in the afternoon. So we called at Bailey's Cafe, a quaint little place on the main street. We ordered two coffees and this conversation occurred:
Server: "Would you like cream?"
Sue: "Yes please"
Pause
Server: "Sorry, we haven't got any"
Once we were back on the road we realised that with a small detour (about 60 miles) we could call at the Jim Beam Whiskey Distillery. No problem! We got a short tour of Jim Beam's house, a film and a tasting. Well worth the detour!
We travelled 420 miles in the day.
Tomorrow we're off to Saint Louis, Missouri.
